This place reminds me of an old black and white movie called Hell house. The team arrived at the gates of Woody and was met by Robert Snow our host on behalf of the trust. I and my colleague got to know Robert quite well during the course of our visit. Robert has written many articles about this place and to quote his own words “this is possibly the most genuine haunted place in England".
Robert unlocked the huge wrought iron gates which had stone pillar supports either side with concrete marbles on top. Then we followed Robert's car down this dirt track into the country side passing woods and avoiding pot holes for about a mile. It's not until you get to the end of the road (reminds me of Chris Rea's song road to Hell) that you see the mansion looming down at you from a great height. It's awesome and my photographs can not show you what it's really like here; you have to live and breathe the experience. There is no telephone access except for emergencies and your mobile phone unless it's a Satelite phone will not work here. So if you were here on your own no one would hear your screams in the dark in the night. This was a very serious night with investigation teams meticulously deploying their members and equipment; all hoping to capture anomalous events. Anyway I hope you enjoy my entertaining and light hearted look around Woody. I have focused my humour on the fact that Woody was abandoned by its original builders and on how cold this building can become. I hope you enjoy!
